He, however does not pride himself with wooing anyone, but with flattery he knocks them off their guard and leaves them liable to theft. He can talk about nonsense forever if it means saving his skin, he’d rather avoid direct conflict, however, he has no issue at all when it comes to ambushing.
He thinks highly of himself, though is not beneath acquiring assistance, as he may be able to endure some damage, and can hold his own in a melee fight, he requires others to be his dominant muscle. He has a funny quirk in that he often likes to be on first-name-basis with people he thinks could be useful to him. He thinks he’s smarter than he is sometimes, and can get himself into trouble by not taking certain aspects into consideration. However, he has the ability to remain cool and collected, and can think of a way out. Usually.
He rarely looses his composure, and often welcomes a challenge if he thinks he’s in control, but in the cases that he finds himself entirely helpless, he can be erratic and stressed, leading to rash decisions and often bad situations.
Underneath the charming exterior, he does have some kindness and compassion. It has to be earned, however, and Rhett is not particularly a loyal man, but if you menage to befriend him, he will return kindness or repay a debt. Though if he helps you he might expect to be repay him.

History:

Rhett grew up in the household of french aristocrats. However, unknown to him, he was the illegitimate child of the master of the house and some handmaiden that was sent away just after he was born, and was never given the same treatment and respect that was given to his older, half sister, Viola. His relationship with his sister was alike to a classmate. They were taught all day, fed appropriately, and sent to bed at a definite time. They didn’t interact socially hardly at all, except for when there was a fight between their parents, when Viola would get anxious, but he wouldn’t let it get to him. So he became a sort of odd comfort for her. He, for a good many years, figured it was normal. That women were to be treated better than men. His mother seemed to be better treated than his father, it also seemed she was always mad at him.

When he was about 12, he learned that he was not actually related to his mother in the slightest, due to accidentally overhearing a heated argument with his parents. He didn’t understand, but shrugged it off, he had grown up so far as not taking anything to heart. A year later and divorce papers were signed, and His step-sister and step-mother kept the house while he and his less wealthy father were forced to find a home elsewhere. Rhett was actually happy to be in a new environment, it was more exciting than schooling all day. His father, however was deeply unhappy living in less luxurious circumstances, and forced Rhett to get a good paying job so that he could try to have it back.  Rhett hated working, it was exhausting and frustrating. Everyone treated him the same as they did when he was rich, not much respect, and there was always someone who deserved more regard than him.

He was about 16 when he accidentally got mixed up working for a group of bandits and thieves. His father got mad at him again because he wasn’t making enough money, and later was offered a strange type of job, but to take the job he had to meet somewhere at midnight. Strange, but he did as instructed. Turns out, he was asked to do their thievery work. small kid in a big town who showed up from out of nowhere.
No one noticed him, No one cared about him. A perfect thief. He stole from taverns and stalls at night, and apparently had a natural knack for snatching things. He never needed to while living in luxury, but now he was growing dependant on it. His father had stopped yelling at him as often, as Rhett was bringing in more money than before, his father couldn’t care less about where it came from. The bandits showed him how to fight, and eventually he managed to surpass many of them in skill and stealth. A few years later he became one of the best of the band of thieves; quick, stealthy, exceptionally good at stealing. He could steal a shirt off a man’s back were he so inclined. Rhett had for once in his life earned respect, and he liked it. He liked being admired and treated like he was worth something. Though it had little to do with his actual profession and more to do with new found pride, he liked to dress formally, and snatched some nice french clothes, staying true to the aristocratic blood in him.

When he was hitting his early twenties, the bandits had this great idea to raid the Navy taxes, it was a simple enough plan, sneak onto the ship, throw the money out the window where one of the bandits was waiting with a lifeboat, and get out. easy.
It didn’t quite work out as such. Rhett and three others had successfully found their way onto the ship and to getting the money to the getaway dingy, but the man catching the gold took off with their profit and escape boat. Trying to stay calm, Rhett figured they could all escape by hiding until they ported.
About a week from docking, they were found out.
Rhett and his bandit crew had been fought out of their hiding place in the cargo hold. Rhett tried fighting them off using his signature hook swords he stole off some foreigner years ago, but during the brawl was stabbed in the side. He woke up later in his cell, laid out like an infirmary, and being treated by the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, A Chimecho named Annabella.

During the final week on the way to port, while the others were in separate cells, he remained in his own with Anna. For which he was grateful… she was kind and gentle with him, she talked to him, and there was something different about how she spoke to him… it wasn’t respect she treated him with, it was kindness. Pure kindness. Every time he showed any sign of pain she was there to help it. sometimes he’d fake pain just so she could check him over… He liked her, and the one week of being wounded in this navy ship was the best of his life. He made a friend.
Once they were ported, she said goodbye and wished him well. Even though he was sent to jail along with the other bandits, and his only family was far away, he had been happier than he ever had been.

A few years later he broke out of jail, and started his own new group of bandits, laying low for a long while before going into much action. Though once he was dressed up and looking rich again, no one recognized him. He found an old shack to use as a hideout, and spent most of his evening playing poker and winning. He developed an unbeatable poker face from the years of not internalizing anything. His respect was soon returned, and he became more decisive. He only recruited certain people, and if they didn’t cut it, he dealt with them then and there. No emotions put into it… his emotions did exist though, he knew they did, because every night the kept him awake by calling out “Anna…Anna…”

When he was upon his late twenties, and Anna’s ship came to visit, he decided to try and ask her to sneak away from her life to be with him. He had money, he could look after her, it made sense. He took her out to the middle of the forest, to a small clearing with a deserted house with a broken windmill, and told her that it could be hers if she decided to stay with him.
She said no.
She had duties and responsibilities to the Navy, and he was a crook. They could arrest her for talking to him. Rhett was devastated, broken by reality. He crumbled, but found himself kissing her…
deeply, and passionately.
She left the next morning, leaving Rhett in the little house. She never came back.

He continued to lead his group of bandits, acting harsher towards them, though now finding that he thought more often, and finding it harder to push feelings away. He felt a need for people, a need of security. He had a reputation… And he intended to keep it. He was in charge, and nothing else was important anymore.
He and his band of thieves stayed strong, doing well, and he lived fairly comfortably in his dusty, old shack. He spent most of his time at the tavern stealing from poker players anyway. He never lost his touch.
Until one day, he attempted to recruit a particularly beautiful and rather skilled pirate into his little band. Unfortunately for him, she refused, and she and her companion escaped his clutches. Narrowly, but they succeeded. Leaving his band of thieves in disarray, most wounded, and many unimpressed of his command. He let one escape. His reputation was ruined.

Months passed and his group eventually decided to forcefully remove him from the group. They didn’t plan to kill him, but to live with shame instead. Rhett found himself on the streets with nothing but the clothes on his back. scavenging and surviving.
At some point later, he met up with the two that caused his forced removal, and figured they would be more useful as allies.
They didn’t respond well.
Not until The woman was taken away and the man was arrested by Navy, that he decided to help them in return for a bit of gold and the privilege of speaking to them on a first name basis. Reluctantly, the man agreed, and the two set out to rescue the other. He helped them, going on quite the adventure until he had earned the respect of both pirates, and even their friendship.

How did you come aboard:

After the events, Rhett had a growing respect for pirates. They were just like him, only thieves of the sea, and they tended to be a bit more head on when they fought. After months of trying to get onto a ship, he met a man in a tavern, a pirate captain. He told him his ambition, and the captain agreed to challenge him to bet through a game of poker. Rhett accepted.

It wasn’t clear who won, or even what the stakes were specifically, but Rhett found himself aboard the Red Night.

:bulletpink: Because of what happened to him regarding Annabella, he is unwilling to pursue romantic relationships, and hates it when he is suspected that it be his intent, though many make the misconception that he is a French man who is not looking for love.
:bulletpink: His ability 'pickpocket' is always active.
:bulletpink: His mother was a Sneasel, so he is a pure bred species, but not a pure bred aristocrat.
:bulletpink: He is ambidextrous.
